SAMR

The-SAMR-Model

The SAMR Model is a way of thinking about technology use in your classroom. Research tells us that when we use ICT as just another way of doing the same thing, we don’t see any real advantage to learning with technology – we may have well not used ICT.

To see a growth in student learning and engagement, we need to think about using ICT to modify what we already do and to eventually redefine the ways students learn and we teach in our classrooms.

The SAMR model was developed by Dr. Reuben Puentedura. You can read more of his information here.

The SAMR model is often explained as a step by step process. But, just as with students learning in our classrooms, we teachers can go back and forth, up and down the model as we teach lessons with ICT. Thats fine! As long as we acknowledge that, in the long run, we want to be sure we are providing our students with learning that prepares them for the world outside of school. Redefining their learning is the only way to do this in the long run.

Thinking about SAMR isn’t restricted to English and Maths learning – this document shows how SAMR is applicable to the Science curriculum (AusVELS).
